Dear all AFSN members, colleagues and friends,

Every year since AFSN inaugural meeting in 2009, the AFSN community has been meeting to share research and advances in forensic science, exchange data and information, discuss best practices and enhance quality of forensic services through training and education.

I am very happy to announce that the 12th AFSN Annual Meeting & Symposium will take place at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City, Philippines, from 5th to 7th of May, 2020.

Terrorism is a global issue that can potentially impact all countries in the world. The theme for this year’s symposium is aptly “Forensic Advancement and Innovations: A Global Approach to Counter Terrorism”. Forensic science plays a major role in the fight against terrorism, by providing important intelligence, information and data for investigation and prosecution. We will need to continue to advance and innovate so that we stay ahead of the criminals. The symposium and workgroup programmes will be a valuable platform for scientists in the region to share, learn and network.

I would like to sincerely thank Police Brigadier General Rolando Hinanay and his team at the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory for the great effort in organising this symposium and putting together an excellent scientific programme for all!

I look forward to meeting all of you in Pasay City in May 2020!

    Dear Friends of AFSN,

It has been over a decade since a group of national forensic institutes in the region have embarked on promoting and unifying the intellectual and practical foundations of Forensic Science in Asia. Every year we are able to forge stronger interconnectedness through strategic activities to overcome the complexities and impediments that provoke the discipline of Forensic Science in the region. We have also seen the expansion of AFSN as more forensic laboratories and more countries in the Asian region join the network each year. As the network grows, we expect more robust discussions in workgroups and a wider spectrum of challenges to share as well. The Philippine National Police, together with the other forensic science institutions in the country, is privileged to host the 12th AFSN Annual Meeting and Symposium on May 5-7, 2020 in the Philippines with the theme “Forensic Advancement and Innovations: A Global Approach to Counter Terrorism”.

As we take on another level of change and notwithstanding the separate vision for development of the independent fields of expertise in forensic science, we exhort you to explore with us how to entwine each of these different fields to create a technical framework as an innovative approach to combat terrorism. Let us try to discover how to resonate the strategies of Forensic Science as a groundbreaking key to confront the peculiarities or terrorism and use the platform it provides to promote peace and order in our society. Let us also strive to strengthen the forensic study of our network, not just in terms of facility and methodology, but also our policies to harmonize our program processes.

Finally, as we continue to campaign for greater unity among our members in the network, we look forward to your active participation in the upcoming 12th AFSN Annual Meeting and Symposium, we welcome you to our beautiful country and commit to share with you the rich culture of our people the most unforgettable way possible.

AFSN 2020 Venue

The Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) made history as Asia’s first international convention center, setting a trend that led other countries to build their own. Designed by Leandro V. Locsin, a Filipino National Artist in Architecture, the PICC Complex formally opened on September 5, 1976 to host the World Bank’s International Monetary Fund Annual Meeting. After this, the PICC established itself as one of the most versatile convention centers in the Asia-Pacific region by being the venue of political summits, medical conventions, and concerts of international artists as varied as Luciano Pavarotti, the Bolshoi Ballet, Janet Jackson, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Ricky Martin, Burt Bacharach and Lea Salonga.

Recommended Travel and Tour Agency

Batanes IBS Travel and Tours started its humble beginnings in 2016 as a van rental service for tourists visiting the island of Batanes. Their service became popular amongst tourists, and group bookings became a common occurrence. Hence, it attracted the attention of one of the premier hotels, making them their partner of choice to service their guests from airport pickups and drop-offs.

Pilipinas Travel Tips
